Los Olivos

I recently had an interview in California for a teaching position. The school is not far outside of Santa Barbara and is certainly in a spectacular part of the country. Here are a few of the snapshots that I made along the way.

Flying into the small airport of Santa Barbara.

I had a few hours to explore before my interviews started and asked around for suggestions as to what I should do. I was directed to a chalk art festival at the Mission in Santa Barbara. It was lively and colorful and I had a great time. Santa Barbara made a great first impression on me.

After a pretty full day of interviews, I drove up a mountain pass to find a view of the sunset. This is ranch and wine country and alogether pretty amazing. Much of the time I was wondering what pigments could be used to find the earthy hues around me.

I think I see some cadmiums in the sunset.

Before flying out, I dug my feet into the sand by the pacific. The beach is no more than 5 minutes from the Santa Barbara airport. It was a good way to unwind and mull over life-direction type questions.

Flying back east, I connected at LAX. Looking down at the sprawling city drew a strong contrast from where I had been coming from.

In the end I was offered the position and I accepted. It has promise of being a pretty good adventure.
